Mainly because of structural crash protection. A,B,C,D pillars have gotten so thick and the slope angle on windshields have gotten so acute that the amount of blind spots in modern cars have increased greatly. I really dont like airbags because they tend to make ugly steering wheels, but I can live with an ugly wheel. I just cant stand feeling like my field of view is blocked

I can understand that, but that is a bit early to be cutting it off. My ‘04 Scion xB has an amazingly airy greenhouse with good sightlines in all directions.
